You cannot serve both God and money.”

“If you feel like Kalos Church is just hungry for your money, then please, take your tithe and give it to another local church. I don’t want something from you, I want something for you.”

Budgeting Apps

We believe that we are called to keep our eyes on our money, just not our hearts (Matthew 25:14-30). One of the best tools for doing so is to use a budgeting app to help ensure you are spending less than you are making. Here’s how it works:

  1. Get a budgeting app (see some options below)

  2. Link your accounts

  3. Create a budget: As best you can write out what you expect to spend each month in different categories.
Here are some sample categories to get you started:
    -Tithe/offering/generosity
    -Housing (rent/mortgage)
-Food (groceries, dine out, coffee, supplements etc.)
    -Transportation (auto payment, gas, maintenance)
    -Insurance
    -Utilities
    -Subscriptions (netflix, gym, Spotify etc)
    -Fun Money

  4. At the beginning of each month, review your budgets
    - Ensure transactions are categorized correctly
    - Debrief how the past month went, did you spend how you thought you would spend?
    - Make adjustments based on what you learned for the following month.

  5. After a few months, when you feel you have a handle on your cash flow (how much is coming in verses going out), begin to create goals
Here are a few sample goals
    - pay off debt
    - start a retirement plan
    - save for vacation
    - buy one bitcoin

Excellent budgeting tool, net worth tracking, auto transaction categorization. $8/mo.

Great simple budgeting tool that also helps cancel unwanted subscriptions.

How to Start Tithing

The spiritual Discipline of Tithing was given to us for two reasons

  1. To resource the church. The church needs financial resources to operate in this world. If you’ve been blessed by the ministry of Kalos Church, please consider partnering with us financially so we can continue to be a blessing to more and more people! This can be a great way to give back what we have been given.

  2. God wants you to be free from bondage to money, and tithing is a proven way to fashion our hearts after God, especially when our society pulls so hard towards an idol of money.

Pro tip: 10% can often feel overwhelming if this is not a regular discipline for you. Don’t do it all at once! Start with $20 or maybe $50 a month. Then make it a goal to increase by a small amount each month until you reach 10%.

Andrew Jennings

In 2022 my wife and I chose to give sacrificially during our season of infertility. Infertility clinics cost a lot of money, a lot more than we had, so giving a large sum of money to Kalos’ Legacy offering felt like a painful act of faith that we trust God is taking care of us. Well in early 2023 our dog became ill, and cost us more money than we were able to spend - she ended up passing away even though we spent money trying to save her. Later that year we lost even more money attempting to go to Mexico to find less expensive infertility treatment. We wondered where God was, and why, after we had given to Him so sacrificially was He seemingly withholding from us. But then something unexpected happened. About 6 months later, when we were ready to move forward with infertility treatments, we somehow had just enough to cover the costs. We are now almost 7 months pregnant with our first son and looking back, I realize that a release happened in my heart when I gave sacrificially in 2022. Money became less and less what I trusted in, and God became more and more what I trusted in. In the end it seems God is answering my most painful prayers, but He also chose to take the opportunity to release my heart from my materialistic tendencies. My generosity did not open the floodgates of heaven and make me rich with US dollars - but I do believe I received something even more valuable, and this freedom feels so good!
