FAQs ABOUT 3 SERVICES
We understand that you may have questions as we get closer to launching 3 services. We want you to feel assured we’re prayerfully making every effort possible to ensure everyone is as comfortable as possible with this change. Please review these FAQ below.
What time are the services?
Service times will be 9:00, 10:30, and 12:00. Each service should last about 1 hour 15 minutes each.
What would the duration of time serving on a Sunday be typically?
This will vary greatly depending on team. Please speak to your Department Head with any questions about your team or the Volunteer Care Team if you’re not currently on a team. But if you are serving all morning (all 3 services) the time commitment is only 30 minutes more than it was with 2 services.
What is Kalos doing to address strain on volunteers during this time?
Our heart, including our leadership, is that we can improve the experience for volunteers as we expand. This is aspirational, and there are many things in motion to try and ready us for another service. One tangible way this is being addressed is the formation of a Volunteer Care team. This team will be responsible for looking at both the larger scale systems of how volunteers are managed as well as the smaller things like more food options that help us all feel cared for.
What provisions will be provided?
The Volunteer Care Team will provide coffee and bagels for the first two services with some light protein-rich items for the third service. Please find all of these refreshments in the lobby and/or Volunteer Lounge.
How many shifts are we going to be expected to serve?
This is dependent on the team. Please review your teams role description first and if you still have questions or want to have a conversation, either speak to your Department Head or the Volunteer Care Team.
Are there certain teams you need volunteers for the most?
All teams remain critical for the success of Kalos, but in terms of expanding to a 3rd Sunday Morning Service, the Kids team and Hospitality teams are in need of the most volunteers.
Are we going to continue evening services?
Yes! Kalos Night, Prayer Nights, Welcome Dinner, and more will continue as normal.
Are we considering weeknight services?
At this point, there are no plans to start weeknight services on a regular basis but we are open to considering them down the road.
Will there be training / orientation for new volunteers?
Yes! Standardized training and orientation, as well as leadership development, are some of the core tenets of what the Volunteer Care Team plans to offer. We aspire to create the same experience for each new member of the Serve Team and to continually be developing new leaders.
What steps are being taken to ensure the team isn’t burnt out?
Burnout is the last thing anyone wants as a part of this expansion, including leadership. It is natural that as we grow and take on expanded responsibilities, the we will want to be mindful of our limits. The Volunteer Care Team and Leadership will continue to perform check-in’s individually, provide spiritual resources, and encourage taking a break, all in order to maintain a healthy culture. We also encourage individuals will to take ownership of their spiritual and emotional health. A healthy spiritual life will lead to serving out of an overflow rather than out of our own strength.
Are we trying to become a mega church?
The phrase ‘mega church’ has challenging connotations: numbers over stories, corporate like hierarchies, celebrity drama and much more and worse. While we actively learn from and avoid some of the awful things we have witnessed with mega churches and their leaders, we also lean into the tension of simultaneously refusing to look away from the crowds of people in our region that are looking for Jesus. So no, we are not trying to become a mega church, but we are also not trying to stay small - if in any way we can reach people for Jesus, we intend to. This is a topic that we will continue to pray about as well as talk about from the stage as we get closer to 3 services launch.
Where do I bring suggestions to improve as we tweak the new system?
Feedback on anything is always welcomed at all levels of Kalos. Please feel free to contact a member of the Volunteer Care Team or member of the Leadership team. We will be sure to listen with humility and ensure that you walk away feeling heard. A few ideas to get you started is to schedule a phone call with our lead team, or just shoot a direct slack message to the involved leaders.
When will we go to 4 services?
Your faith is encouraging! Our leadership team is currently strategizing what our next step will look like and we don’t have concrete answers just yet. At the moment, our hope would be to find a larger venue rather than add any more than 3 services.
Why 3 services? Can’t we stay small?
The choice to add a service was not taken lightly - and to be honest we are really nervous about it ourselves! We love how Kalos feels at it’s current size just like you. We are adding a 3rd service because more people are wanting to be a part of what is happening at Kalos, and as we prayerfully consider what it looks like to follow Jesus, we feel that God is leading us to open our doors wider in order to embrace them. After months of deliberation, 3 services feels like the best way forward with our current resources.
How can I pray for the church / leadership in the season?
We love this question! There are a number of areas that could use your prayer but overall, we just want to continue to seek first the Kingdom of God in all that we say and do. Prayers for our spiritual health and our ability to listen and discern to His leading would be more than welcomed as we navigate this exciting time. Thanks so much for being willing to support us through this season and to this point in our story!
